The Save Our Planet Project program was created by artist and social activist David Kam, with the realization that poverty and protecting the environment are interconnected. When people are poor and starving they may engage in illegal pouching of endangered species, illegal logging for firewood to sell, hunting bush meat (which can lead to the spreading of the ebola virus) and other destructive activities just to survive. We cannot really blame them because this is due to extreme poverty. Save Our Planet Project helps both the environment and humanity at the same time, in order to create a brighter future for all of us.

Artist David Kam had the idea to plant a seed for social change via its E=MC² Creative Friends Network and reducing shopping bag use with a WIN-WIN solution for artists, consumers, charity, the poor and retailers. Here is how it works:

  • Bag Designers: rewarded through revenue sharing program (US 50 ¢ for each bag sold);
  • Environment: reduce plastic bag and paper bag use;
  • Charity: $1 from each bag donated to MakeHungerHistory.com and environmental charities (such as WWF);
  • Jobs for Poor: create thousands of fair trade jobs in poor regions to manufacture the bags, such as Cambodia and Africa;
  • Retailers: customers rewarded with prizes for using the bag;

How You can help?

Help us create limited edition shopping bags, which will be sold worldwide in selected green retailers. Society consumes well over 500 billion plastic bags annually, or almost 1 million per minute. Did you know plastic bags comes from fossil fuels? In fact many of today's conventional plastic products are made from petroleum products including oil.When 1 ton of plastic bags is reused or recycled, the energy equivalent of 11 barrels of oil are saved. 12 million barrels of oil is used to make the plastic bags that the U.S. consumes annually. Wow, that is a lot of greenhouse gases produced and a wasted of precious energy!

When you replace 1 ton of paper bags with Save Our Planet Project bags, 3 cubic meters of landfill space is saved and 13 - 17 trees are spared! In 1997, 955,000 tons of paper bags were used in the United States. Yikes, we cut down 14,000,000 trees just for paper bags in the U.S. It takes 120 million barrels of non-renewable fuels to produce a year’s supply of these bags worldwide. Of course that adds to harmful air emissions and green house gases.

We hope that through the Save Our Planet Project, we can reduce plastic bag and paper bag use by as much as 10% worldwide (50 billion less). Each high quality reusable bag you use has the potential to eliminate an average of 1,000 plastic and paper bags over your lifetime.

Help Yourself (awards of US $1,000 to $100,000)

We share the revenue with you for winning designs (US 50 ¢ for each bag sold), which can be anywhere from US $1,000 to $100,000, depending on how good the sales are. We also promote the artist who help design the winning bags via paper tags, magazines, in-store signings and on our website. The limited edition bags are collectibles.

Help the Environment

We hope that through the Save Our Planet Project, we can reduce plastic bag use by as much as 10% worldwide (50 billion less). Plastics are forever! Plastics do NOT biodegrade. Plastic bags cause over 100,000 sea turtle and other marine animal deaths every year when animals mistake them for food. It consumes a lot of energy, consumes oil and produces greenhouse gases which causes climate change. All the Save Our Planet Project bags will be produced with natural organic fibers and recycled materials.

Help Charity

For each bag sold, we donate $1.00 to the MakeHungerHistory.com (a program to alleviate poverty), and charities to protect the environment.

Create Thousands of Jobs for the Poor

All the shopping bags, will be produced under fair trade conditions in desperately poor regions, such as Cambodia and Africa. Our Save Our Planet Project hopes to create thousands of jobs for the poor.
